MAC 'Show Stopper' Quad - Review

MAC; Showstopper; Eyeshadow
I picked up this little quad by MAC at duty free last year, on the way to New York.  It is called 'ShowStopper'.  I was instantly drawn to the beautiful neutral tones, they were right up my street.  It was absolutely perfect for my trip away.

These shades can be used beautifully during the day for a gentle soft look, then used in a different manner in the evening - for a spicier style.
MAC; Showstopper; Eyeshadow; swatches
Price £30

Oh my darling:  pale peach beige, with a frost finish - I wouldn't say this had a peachy tone to it at all, well not that shows up on my skin.  Just beige in all honesty.

Jest:  soft peach with icy finish - I absolutely adore this colour, it instantly brightens the eye which is brilliant for those sleep deprived mornings.

Mineralism - a Frosty Taupe - also absolutely stunning

ShowStopper - deep matte brown.  amazing for the outer corners and crease.  Makes a gorgeous smokey eye.
MAC; Showstopper; Eyeshadow

The only downside about this palette is the slight crumbliness of the frosted shades, these do provide some residue but nothing a quick blow of the brush can't solve before application.  I suggest starting with a little on the applicator, gradually building up your shading.

For me this quad is an all rounder, I could quite easily take this away with me and not wish I had brought something else too. MAC rarely disappoints me and this is no exception.

Weekend Favourites #1 - Soap & Glory, Benefit...

Makeup Revolution; Benefit; Chanel; Elizabeth Arden; Bourjois; Soap & Glory

Weekend Favourites #1

If you are like me, you'll go through phases of favourite makeup items.  What you choose to wear at the weekend, quite often is completely different to your weekday choices.  I don't mean heavier makeup for a night, just in general - perhaps for a really nice saturday barbecue in Summer, would be a completely different look from the weekly supermarket shop.  Here are my top picks this weekend:

Makeup Revolution Products - Palette, Lipstick, Pigment..

Makeup Revolution Review, Redemption Palette, Romantic Smoked
The other week I did a Makeup Revolution haul..  then tweeted through the week being totally gutted that my husband accidentally threw out a bag that I had put it in.  I managed to salvage one of the palettes that I bought - 'The Salvation Palette', which I have been using religiously.

What's in my Bag? - MAC, Benefit, OPI..... to name a few

MAC, Chanel, Collection, Chanel, YSL, OPI, Soap & Glory

I saw this post recently on another blog and I too realised that in my 2 years of blogging I hadn't done this post before.  So here's what I have in my bag today:

Inside my handbag

IPhone, pathetic but would be lost without it.

Estee Lauder powder compact and YSL powder brush  - for those unexpected shiny moments.  Collection 'No Clumps' mascara  - just amazing for a touch up on the go.  My favourite teal eyeliner  -  Soap & Glory - Smoulder Kohl, handy for unexpected cocktails with the girls.

Eyelash Glue - for those flyaway falsies.  Hair Bobbles - wouldn't be without one or two at hand.

Getting Crafty - Shabby Chic Makeup Brush Holders, Party Favours .... hand crafted with love.

I've always loved a bit of craftiness and recently I started up again. I made the beautiful shabby chic Jar filled with hearts as a Hen Present for my friend.  I got the hens to write notes on larger hearts which went into the Jar before I presented it to her the following morning. Her very own 'Jar of Hearts'.  I thought this up because it seemed that bit more personal.

I really enjoyed making this and then it came to me, that these would be really good makeup brush containers and I'm considering making them and perhaps selling them on Etsy. I would also make to order so if you would like one, you can leave a comment below.

Bourjois Paris - Volume 1 Second Waterproof - The Sporty Mascara

Bourjois Paris - Volume 1 Second Waterpoof Mascara
On Twitter last week, I asked for some product recommendations, I was off shopping.
The lovely Sandra and Georgina both pointed me in the direction of this Bourjois Paris Volume 1 Seconde Mascara, they said that the loved it.   Being intrigued, I couldn't pass up such recommendation.

Well, I'm so glad that I did.

The Sporty Mascara

I am one of these girls that doesn't mind going out with no foundation on but I really must have mascara on.  I feel my eyes just don't look right without it.  I've recently become a keen runner and now have a few races under my belt. With the warmer weather coming in, during my training sessions lately, I have been sweating like a *** perspiring more and it seems to be running into my eyes, thus causing major sting-age - whilst using my normal mascara.  I look like a Panda that has escaped from the Zoo by the time the run is over.  No other way to describe it.

Birchbox June 2014

birch box june 2014

Birchbox June 2014 includes some really nice treats, well my box does. What was inside yours?

Silk & Honey Shea Butter Hair Mask which smells amazing.   OPI Nail Lacquer sparkly purple.  Embryolisse Moisturiser Sample.  Naobay Body Radiance Lotion which also smells great.
The absolute winner this month is - Yves Rocher Lipstick I received No. R402, on first look I thought it was going to be a deep mauve but when applied onto the lips it is very conservative and more like nude with a hint of mauve.. if that makes any sense?  I will review it with swatches soon.

Also included in my box was a Birchbox flip flop keyring - really cute.

The Summer Tag

Georgina from Makeup Pixi3 has created another nifty Summer Tag - thank you and here are my answers.

What is your favourite thing about Summer?
 - I really love the sunshine, spending quality time with family and friends around a BBQ if the opportunity arises.

Do you have a favourite Summer drink? -  I love Corona in the summer months, very fatty fatty but tastes so lovely with a massive wedge of lime - Desperados is also amazing.

Glossybox June 2014

I have to say Glossybox pulled off one heck of a box this month, I am delighted with mine.  The perfect summer box, which includes 4 full size products.  My favourite item in the box has to be the Teeez Trend flat brush, the handle design is absolutely stunning and the natural hair is so soft.  This brush is perfect for cream and powder based eyeshadow products ideal for precision application.

I am also excited to try the So Susan Universal Blusher - the colour is really pretty, with a very subtle sheen. From the one swatch i've taken it is nicely pigmented, I don't think you would need much per application.

Oh my goodness the Rituals antiperspirant smells amazing. I am useless at describing scents but it says 'White Lotus and YiYi Ren' if you have any idea what they smell like you will get where I am coming from.  I adore Rituals products in general so I am pleased with this product.  Perfectly sized for my handbag.

As for the last two items, the hair soufflé and the 3 in 1 Nail polish, these are both very nice items also.

What did you receive this month?

The Body Shop Mini Haul, some sweet treats

Body Shop Haul
I'm a sucker for the Body Shop, I simply can't walk past it without going in.  It smells delicious and yesterday they had offers on.  The massive 750ml pump head shower gels were reduced to £8! I chose Strawberry.

Soft Eyes Makeup Tutorial - with Urban Decay Naked 3.

I'm always scouring Pinterest for natural, pretty eyeshadow looks for during the day.  I am currently in love with my Naked 3 Palette and in particular the colours used for the look below.  This is a very easy, very subtle look that is very soft and can quickly be darkened as time ticks towards the evening.
Firstly I apologise for the quality of this image, my camera is currently on the blink so I'm afraid I have to rely on my iPhone just now hence the slight pixelation.

I always split the eyelid into three sections.

I begin with the lightest shade working from the inner eyelid out, gradually getting darker as I go.  I also highlight the brown bone and usually shade the outer crease only.  Not everyone likes to but I personally like to shade the lower lash line.  My water line is really watery so I find that eyeliner in that particular area never lasts very long so the quick fix is the lower lash.

The Palette:
Urban Decay Naked 3

Shades used in this particular look:

Strange - inner lid & brow-bone
Limit - middle of the eye lid
Nooner - outer eyelid and along the lower lash line
Factory - applied along the outer crease and ever so slightly along the corner of the upper, outer lash line.

I then use a fluffy brush to blend and use my favourite mascara to finish.   In this instance - YSL Babydoll

Hope you have had an enjoyable week so far.  Today I am bringing you the first in a line of 'weekly top pick' posts.   With the warmer weather coming in we are able to wear our summer outfits and show off our legs a little.

It is also nice to be able to wear our bright lips again and experiment with some pretty Summer looks.  .   I for one actually love a bright lip all year round.  In particular Ruby Woo.

Ruby Woo is a stunning Retro Matte lipstick by MAC which I have spoken to you about before.  I felt that it needed to be brought to the attention of some of my newer readers.

Top 10 - Festival Hair & Beauty Tips

It’s time to dig out your wellies and pac-a-macs as the festival season is on the horizon.

Living in a field can be tough for girls and can really mess up your beauty routine. Beauty experts at have festival style covered and have shared their top ten tips to look festival fabulous.

1.     Salt spray

The best tip for festival hair is to keep it looking natural. Add texture and mattify your hair with a sea salt spray.

Simply spritz the spray all over your hair for a wavy, effortless look.

2.     Gel nails

Bright nails make a playful statement at festivals but they can look a mess when they start to chip. Switch your usual nail paint for a nail gel. Gel nails have been proven to last up to two weeks without chipping so they should stay looking perfect for the entire weekend.
Book an appointment in the salon the day before the festival or do it yourself with an LED nail lamp, some gel nail polish and a sealer to achieve a salon professional look.

Gel nails are available in a range of colours. Try a coral shade for some summer fun or be bold in black for a rock chick look.

Accessorize 80s Style

I have an 80s themed Hen Party tomorrow night for one of my friends. I am her Bridesmaid at the end of July. I have my outfit sorted which I will share with you later and I am currently sitting researching 80s makeup styles which I am planning on practicing tonight.

As well as getting the costume ready, I had to buy the correct accessories and whilst in Accessorize recently I picked up these gorgeous pieces.

I love the neon pink necklace and thrilled I have a costume to tie it in with, along with these really cute large hooped earrings - I am normally a stud gal but couldn't resist them.

I also picked up these really cute Alice Bands and bows from the children's section. I got a couple so I had more of a choice when getting ready - aren't they fab!!?

I actually own a set of Babyliss Crimpers so my hair is going to be huge.  The Bigger the better.

Rihanna CFDA Fashion Awards - the dress

Rihanna picked up the CFDA award for Fashion Icon 2014 but what do you think of the gown she wore, or need I say - didn't wear - to the Ceremony?

Not a stranger to showing off a bit of flesh, RiRi's gowns are getting a little more daring each time.

I first caught glimpse of  her wearing this Adam Selman dress, adorned with over 200,000 Svarovski Crystals,  on Perez Hilton Blog.  First thoughts were quite honestly .. what the?

Researching further, I watched a video of her acceptance speech and actually, it didn't seem to be as bad as some of the pictures portray.  Ok, all she is wearing is a nude thong and pink shrug to hide her lady bits but If I looked like Rihanna, I think I would like to show my figure off too.  Though how much is too much?

For this sort of event, I think something a little classier wouldn't have gone a miss.   I won't hold it against her, she's gorgeous and I do love a bit of RiRi style.  However this was a bit of a fashion faux pa, in my opinion.  What do you think?
