Fox in a box - Feet Cuteness

Give me a pair of slipper socks in any shape or cuteness and I'll be happy.  This year, I received in my stocking, these amazing 'Fox in a Box' slipper socks.   I swear they are the roastiest, toastiest pair of socks I have ever treated my feet too.  To top it off they are so incredibly cute.  Foxes and Pandas are my favourite.

Contouring

If you are new to contouring and trying to figure out the best contouring for your face shape. I found this great poster online to help you.  Keeps me right.

I have quite a wide face-my sister says it's 'heart shaped'.    I probably try to contour the areas specified in picture one but also incorporating shading around my nose to make it look thinner, as shown in picture five.

I completely believe in trial and error.  I will get it right one day I'm sure.   One thing to remember is to blend properly, there's nothing worse than harsh contour lines.  Keep blending for a natural, softer finish.

I find the Naked Basics palette hosts great contouring shades - eyeshadows I know, but also great for shading.

What face shape do you have?  Please share your hints and tips below.

Makeup Revolution Focus & Fix Eye Primer

I have well and truly caught the Makeup Revolution bug.  I have a few items lined up for review but today I want to quickly talk about the Focus & Fix Eye Primer.

On a day to day basis I really rely on make up primers - especially primers for the eye.  My day starts at 05:15 and doesn't finish until I come in the door around 18:45.  For me it is important that my eyeshadow lasts. If I forget to wear a primer it will be creased and fading by midday.

Dune Ankle Boots

Well, the husband only went and did it again.  This time, instead of throwing out a bag of my makeup, he managed to throw out not one but six pairs of my shoes by 'accident'.  They magically ended up in a black bin liner and ended up at the tip did they?  He kept saying 'they're only shoes', which added fuel to the fire.  I swear if one of his many cycling mags went missing he wouldn't be happy.

Pug Boots

Anyway cutting a long rant short - one of the pairs he threw out were my favourite ankle boots - you know the old reliables.  Well on Saturday, I finally replaced them with these beautiful boots from Dune.

cake cetera
After a long day at work, what a surprise to come home to these absolutely delicious Macaroons, very kindly sent to me by the lovely Polly at Cake Cetera.  What an absolutely brilliant idea, say it with cake instead of flowers.  I have never tried a Macaroon before and for my very first taste of these little delights I was very impressed.  No one else in my house got a look in.  They really cheered me up today.

1940s Vintage Themed Wedding

Mid September already. Can't believe it.  Well, I suppose I have been missing in action this month.  September has brought a new job and has seen another best friends wedding.  My friends Kelsie and Jonny had a 1940s meets Festival themed wedding, Kelsie being a huge fan of anything vintage and their mutual love of music and festivals.

Invent the perfect Bath Soak - The Bathory

A couple of weeks ago I was approached by 'The Bathory' and asked if I would like to 'invent my own' bath soak.  Was feeling really under the weather so completely jumped at the chance.

An afternoon of Makeup Gurus

Beauty; Guru;

I am sure I am not alone here - if I am lucky enough to have a Saturday at home, when the kids are busy with their activities and the hubby is away.   When the rain is lashing down outside I love to snuggle up in bed at 3 o'clock with a cup of tea, packet of chocolate digestives and my laptop.

Once.. Collection by Illamasqua

The new Illamasqua Collection 'Once' is now available to buy and has definitely left me drooling this afternoon.. With an Autumn wedding approaching, I will be popping some of these beauties in my shopping basket.  In particular the Vintage Metallix eyeshadow in the shades Courtier and Embellish.  They look super gorgeous.

I am returning to work after a 'career break' to raise my children next month too.  I think these lovelies would make me feel so much more confident..  any excuse eh?

I adore Illamasqua, they never fail to disappoint me. I only wish the brand was more readily available in Aberdeen.

My #Icebucket Challenge Video - Consider yourself tagged.

Hey all, this is my ice bucket challenge video.  I know I name other people in the video but for all my blogger friends, I nominate Bravenezz.com, Lola & Behold, A Little Boat Sailing and Sophie Rose Hearts.    I think it is brilliant way to help raise awareness and money to these extremely worthy causes.  This was freezing cold, but only for a matter of moments, and the least I could do for charity.  I wish I could do more but it is a start.

If you have already done it, please post your videos anyway.

If anyone reading this has yet to be nominated - consider yourself tagged.

I chose to text Ice to 70550 for Macmillan, .  Good luck guys you have 24 hours.

Weekend Favourites + Lisa Eldridge Inspired Smokey Eye.

I have been in bed most of the weekend with flu however, I decided to venture out for some lunch with a friend earlier.  It took all of my energy to get ready so decided to keep the makeup simple.  I am showcasing the main items of my look.  I do have a bb cream, blusher and mascara on too, but nothing heavy.

MAC Paint Pot - Constructivist

Image of Mac Paint Pot - Constructivist

My pick for today is MAC Paint Pot in the shade 'Constructivist'.  The paint pots are one of MACs biggest sellers but I have to admit this is my very first one!

The paint pots are great value for money, even if they do cost £14.50 - they last ages and the colours are so rich and the creams so velvety, that you only need a smidgen at a time.

Image of Mac Paint Pot - Constructivist

Constructivist is a lovely, slightly shimmery, deep velvety brown with soft red undertones - this shade, in my opinion, would suit every skin tone - a real all rounder.   It goes onto the lid creamy but soon dries.

Before purchasing MAC Constructivist, I did avoid cream eyeshadows as I felt they just creased quickly however, this on its own, i'd say will last you  half a day before a touch up - if used with a primer, all day.  I do recommend always using a primer as it provides a good base for your shadow.  This shade is also very build able and I like to put it on in layers.

I particularly like this shade because although it is extremely rich - it isn't too over powering and it makes my eyes look very soft.

I have 2 more paint pots on their way so watch this space.  I think they will also complement  constructivist for a nice creamy smokey eye.

What are your thoughts on the paint pots and do you own this one?

'If I can rescue just one persons’ hair with this recipe I will be happy (this doesn't include my friends or family because their locks have already been saved!). My grandmother finally told me the greatest blends that work well together and I spent months researching different products. It was here that my idea of Old Wives Tail (OWT) was born (my grandmother being the ‘old wife’ and my long, luscious hair being the ‘tail’)…

Urban Decay Birthday Giveaway & Special Thank You

Well, A Scottish Lass blog turns 2 in August - I can hardly believe it.  Since I started blogging I have met, and become friends with some really lovely people - Sasha, Sophie, Luchessa, Laura - too many names to mention everyone but I love them all.  In November last year I met and had dinner in  New York City with one of my favourites Leslie, which was definitely up there with the highlights of my trip.

I have met some brilliant Scottish Bloggers along the way too - Kirsty, Laura, Ashly, Rachel G, Rachel B & Amey.

Lastly, but by far least - one very special Welsh lady I am honoured to call a friend - Georgina, we talk like we've known each other our whole lives.

This is a side to blogging I really didn't expect when I started out.  I started blogging to talk about a subject I am passionate about, to fill my evenings and to express my views.  Then suddenly experienced such support from the Blogging Community it has been absolutely amazing.

To celebrate 'A Scottish Lass' turning 2 in August.  I am giving away The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette and an Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss (your choice of shade).  As a thank you for all being so brilliant to me.  The competition will run for a month, please follow the Rafflecopter widget below to enter.  It will be open internationally too.  Good luck and here's to another year.

July - the monthly roundup

I know it isn't quite the end of July yet, but I am particularly busy from now until the end of the month so thought I would post my July roundup slightly early.
July has been one roller coaster of emotions.

At the beginning of the month the school holidays started and we took a trip up to 'Wick' to visit family.  For those of you who don't know, Wick is a small town at the very top of Scotland, around 40 miles from John O'Groats.  Some of the loveliest scenery you will ever see is up in the Scottish Highlands.  We found a hotel named 'Mackay Hotel', we thought this was a great photo opportunity!

A Yankee Candle Obsession - Black Cherry

I don't know about you but I am candle daft,  particularly with Yankee Candles.  So, you can imagine my excitement when the Yankee Candle Company opened up in Aberdeen.  Yee haa.  Much to my husbands dismay.  Men don't get it, they can't quite understand why we do not like the bedroom smelling of sweaty feet or the kitchen smelling of last nights curry.

Galaxy Nails - Guest Post by Sparklecrack Central

A few days ago I tried “galaxy nails” for the first time ever. I didn’t do too badly, but it didn’t turn out the way that I would have preferred.

What you’ll need

Lip balm (goes around your cuticles – makes manicure cleanups much easier)
Matte or crème black nail polish
Turquoise polish
Magenta polish

Clear with multicolor glitter “holographic” top coat
Optional: white crème polish and a fine dotting tool
1 or 2 makeup sponges (I used a double-sided eyeshadow applicator)
You can use any black, turquoise, and magenta polish you wish, from any brand. I used China Glaze’s Liquid Leather (black crème), Sexy in the City (turquoise pearl), Reggae (magenta pearl), and Fairy Dust (clear multicolor glitter). (Why, yes, I did purchase the It’s In The Stars quad-set from Head2Toe Beauty, why do you ask? Shush, I really wanted Fairy Dust.) For the white polish, I used Sally Hansen’s Let’s Snow. And for the glitter top coat, I used (of course) China Glaze’s Fairy Dust.

Makeup in a Hurry - My 7 Minute Makeup - MUA, Collection, Clarins, Bobby Brown...

Benefit, Bobbi Brown, Clarins, MUA, YSL, Zoeva, MAC, Benefit, Heal Gel
We all have those days when we sleep in and are in a mad panic dash to get organised.  I actually timed myself today to see how fast I could actually get my 'face on'.  The timer read 6 minutes 58 seconds when I stopped the counter.  So let's say 7.  Would have loved 5 minutes, but no matter how much of a hurry I am in, I never slack on the skin prep.  I didn't include the actual cleansing as I had washed my face in the shower beforehand.
